My stay at the Qasr Al Sarab Resort in the UAE

It’s not often I get the chance to travel for myself. Most of the time I’m travelling for work, sourcing what’s news in the fitness and wellness world to bring back to www.sporteluxe.com. While I must admit, it’s been an awesome opportunity to travel the world for work, but finding the time to enjoy it on my own accord is at the most of times…non existent (sad face). Late night calls with plenty of documenting, finding the perfect picture to take, meetings and more meetings….then the time left for me is the time when my head hits that pillow. But it wasn’t until last week that I had a travel experience that changed me…

Two weeks ago when work was getting the better of me (tiredness and bags under my eyes were a common occurrence), my husband surprised me with a trip to the UAE. My first thought was… Oh goodness all I am craving are blue crystal waters and a white sandy beach for a revival. But little did I know that this trip to the UAE desert resort called Qasr Al Sarab Anantara would not only change my life, but totally change the way I perceived life. Yes the resort is located in the desert which means hello a 45 degrees of dry and hot weather. The heat at first, it’s very confronting and very claustrophobic, exactly the feeling of standing in front of a heater at home. I couldn’t escape it. But… at the end of my stay, I actually enjoyed it (and miss it as I write this). There’s no humidity at all, just dryness. I must say I’ve never seen my hair so smooth and frizz free. I guess the most notable part of the stay at Qasr Al Sarab was the whole experience and oneness with the surrounding dunes. It’s almost like the moving dunes had cast a spell over me. So serene and breath taking. Even the aromas of masculine musks and Arabian spices floating around the resort added to the emotion that was felt. The architecture was almost of a Moroccan influence and the foods …pita breads, hummus dips and tomato dips were a staple diet for my stay.

Knowing that there is so much more to life than what I live amongst in Sydney. Of course I have my daily work duties and stressors and I’m sure anyone reading this would agree that getting away is almost impossible with families and work etc. But for me the fact that I have been super lucky with this holiday (saved up and spent wisely on my needs not wants) has really showed to me that there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored, that changes the way I perceive life.

I value ‘ME’ time because it resets my whole body and mind. And can’t stress enough to anyone finding it hard to balance and recoup to look to escape the daily grinds and find somewhere where you can reset yourself. It doesn’t have to be overseas, it can be somewhere like a weekend escape. Just be sure to leave the emails, put down the phone and lap tops and be in the moments with the surrounds and your loved ones. Balance is key.

On that note…There’s only been a few resorts in the world that not only are incredibly striking, but have acted on my emotions. Qasr Al Sarab ranks in my top 2 world and The Post Ranch Inn up in Big Sur California is my number one. A truly breathtaking and magical experience and I can’t recommend both places enough for anyone wanting to be enchanted by a life changing experience.
